Browse the Kentucky Street Directory

For a Kentucky address, public records can show who is assessed as an owner, where a tax bill is sent, and which office holds a deed. They cannot give a sure count of who is inside a home today. A Kentucky street directory search works best when you follow one street segment across the local Property Valuation Administrator, a county map, the county clerk's land index, and any limited voter or permit records. Keep the parcel number and old street forms together as you check each source, and treat each record as evidence for one part of the address history.

Finding Kentucky Residents by Street

Kentucky street records answer different questions. A PVA identifies the assessed owner, GIS places a parcel, and the clerk's index tracks transfers and legal descriptions. Voter and permit records add limited address evidence, not a live household list. Begin with the county.

  1. Find the county; use its PVA search for parcel ID, assessed owner, situs and mailing addresses.
  2. Select the parcel in county GIS and note adjacent IDs, road labels and useful layers.
  3. Search the clerk's land index by parcel, lot/block or street form.
  4. Use the statewide voter center to check one registration, not browse a street.
  5. For an older household, check the library's street or cross-directory edition for that year.

Record the county and spelling. Try old names and directional forms, and keep situs, mailing and legal-description fields separate.

Kentucky Street Directory Record Chain

Kentucky address records overlap, but an owner entry is not proof of occupancy and a map polygon is not a household roster. The clerk holds land records; statewide maps provide base geography and counties add local layers. This street directory connects those records by address.

Use parcel ID to link the map and tax card. Legal description can bridge to an older deed after a street-number change. Permit and voter files describe a dated project or registration, not every person along the road.

Kentucky Permit Records by Address

Louisville Metro's Codes & Regulations dashboards cover building permits and inspections, property complaints, and vacant-lot work orders. A dated permit or inspection can explain a change to one parcel along a street, but the dashboard is a Louisville example, not a statewide Kentucky address search.

City sites and retention periods vary. If a needed filing is not online, ask the city planning, building, or code custodian for permit, inspection, or complaint records by exact address, record type, and date range. A written Kentucky Open Records request can name the preferred format. The applicant may be an architect, contractor, owner, representative, or public agency, so treat a permit as project evidence rather than a resident entry.

The Fayette Deed Index Limit

Fayette's portal covers indexed and imaged land records from mid-1989 to the present, displays an “Instruments Verified Through” timestamp, and caps searches at 1,000 records. Non-Indexed Documents, Daily Notebook and Old Index Books are alternate browse routes. An empty result does not rule out an older instrument.

Search criteria include party, street/legal description, instrument placement, date and type. Results are index leads; fields vary by record.

Fayette form fieldHow it narrows a land-record search
Party mode and name fieldsSearch one name against both parties, grantor, grantee, both names with selected instruments, or either party; last/company, first and MI fields

Instrument groups/typeGroups include deeds, land records, leases, liens, mortgages, plats, releases and wills; 60-plus types include affidavits and mechanics liens
Search / New Search / ClearRun or reset; browse Non-Indexed Documents, Daily Notebook or Old Index Books

An index lead may list parties, instrument type, date, control number, book/page, address or legal description, indexed consideration and image availability. Exact result labels vary; use it to locate the instrument rather than assume every field appears.

Fayette offers a public terminal/deed room and a specific-copy form. Noncertified copies cost $0.50/page; certified copies cost $5 for the first three pages, then $0.50/page plus $1 postage/handling. Staff do not perform title searches. Call or write with parties, date, book/page, control number or address. If online coverage ends, try older indexes and Digital Access Project scans, then KDLA's county inventory or FamilySearch microfilm. Review the Fayette deed index for current controls.

Kentucky Parcel Maps by Street

Kentucky Geography Network, or KYGeoNet/KyGovMaps, provides statewide base maps, not a universal parcel-owner viewer. Local agencies supply parcel, flood, zoning and district layers; check each layer's metadata and disclaimer.

Identify, select and measure tools vary by county. KYGeoNet has no single adjacent-parcel control, so confirm owners with the local PVA or clerk.

Select a parcel and record its ID; click adjacent lots only when attributes are available. Verify ownership with the PVA and transfers with the clerk. KYGeoNet supplies statewide map context.

Kentucky Voter Rolls by Street

The Kentucky Voter Information Center (VIC) checks one voter's registration, polling place and requested absentee-ballot status. It is not a street browse. A regulated precinct list may contain name, address, age code, party, gender, ZIP and five-year participation under KRS Chapter 116 and 31 KAR 3:010.

Legal First NameText, requiredEnter the voter's legal first name

Full voter-file access uses the SBE-84 form, an eligible purpose and an oath against commercial use, resale or transfer. It allows pickup or mail payment, with an email/card option, and asks for 7 to 10 business days. The form goes by mail or email to SBEVOTERDATAORDERS@KY.GOV; the State Board lists (502) 573-7100 and 140 Walnut Street, Frankfort. The county clerk can answer an individual's registration question in person.

Contact detailsAddress, city, state, ZIP and daytime phone

Five-year history records participation, not ballot choice. Safe at Home protects participant addresses. Use the VIC for one's own registration; ask the county clerk or KDLA about historical poll books, whose coverage varies.

The Lexington Address Bridge

Lexington's 1958 streets-and-subdivisions directory lists city-limit numbers, annexed areas, subdivisions, metropolitan streets and country roads. The 1942 and 1956 street volumes offer earlier checks. These are historical bridges, not current maps or legal boundaries.

If an address fails, try old street names, directional forms, cross streets or lot/block. Lexington Public Library's Kentucky Room holds digitized and physical material; Louisville Free Public Library reports city directories from 1832 to today. The Kentucky city-directory guide covers the historical shelf.

County boundaries also changed. McCreary became Kentucky's 120th county in 1912, so older deeds, tax lists or court records may be under a parent county. Match the record year to the clerk or archive.

Kentucky Record Requests by Address

Kentucky's Open Records Act lets residents request nonexempt records in writing from the official custodian. Include your name and contact details, parcel/address, record type, date range and preferred format. Under KRS 61.880(1), the agency responds within five working days or gives a reason for delay and earliest availability date. It need not create a new record.

For deeds, use the county clerk's public terminal or deed room, then call or send a specific-copy request with parties, date or instrument number. Ask whether mail/email is accepted. The Revenue directory locates a PVA; city permits go to the local planning/building/code custodian. KDLA's research room is open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 to 3:30, closed Friday; appointments are advised. County libraries and FamilySearch catalogs may hold microfilm.

When a portal ends, the street directory route continues through the clerk, phone, a specific-copy request or an archive. KRS 61.874 allows actual reproduction costs; paper copies commonly cost $0.10 per page, with possible postage or media charges. See the Kentucky Open Records Act guide. Agencies may withhold exempt material under KRS 61.878 and must identify the exemption.

What Kentucky Streets Cannot Show

A PVA card names an assessed owner, not each person inside. A tax address may belong to an agent or relative, and a permit applicant may be a contractor. Voter registration cannot prove who is present today or reveal ballot choices.

Driver, utility and delivery data are not public resident lists. Vital and court files may be confidential, sealed or redacted. Safe at Home masks participants' addresses in many public records, but not real-estate holdings. Do not infer a protected address from a blank field.

Lawful use. Kentucky's public-records laws do not permit stalking, threats or harassment. KRS 508.150 defines second-degree stalking as a crime under specified conditions; do not use address information to monitor or intimidate anyone.
